'Here's a man of jollity'

We welcome Matthew Siveter (baritone) for an afternoon's concert of Gilbert and Sullivan with other pieces from Musical Theatre, the odd joke and comic story.  He will be joined by Eleanor O'Driscoll (soprano).

Matthew is well-known as a principal with the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company having started as a child amateur at the Festival.  Having studied at Royal Holloway, he has gone on to work extensively in comedic opera and has recently toured with the English Touring Opera's production of The Gondoliers playing Don Alhambra.  He has also been a regular principal with Opera della Luna, Charles Court Opera, Scottish Opera and Mid-Wales Opera.  Scroll down for a fuller biography.

Matthew Siveter studied  is  much in demand for both comic and dramatic roles in both
opera and operetta.

2025 saw Matthew appear as Marullo Rigoletto and Mars/Styx/Bacchus Orpheus in the Underworld for IF Opera, as well as Mr Kromov The Merry Widow for Scottish Opera and Opera Holland Park, with other recent roles including Escamillo in Carmen and Benoit/Alcindoro in La Bohème for Longborough Festival Opera;  Jupiter in Orphée aux
Enfer
s for Buxton International Festival, and Frank in Die Fledermaus for IF Opera.

His busy current and future plans include his critically-acclaimed debut for English Touring Opera as both Tonio in Pagliacci and Don Alhambra The Gondoliers, Figaro Le nozze di Figaro for Wild Arts, Marcello in La Bohème for the Gap Festival, Schaunard in La
Bohème
for Diva Opera, and Frank, Die Fledermaus for his full Opera Holland Park debut in summer 2026.

Matthew’s other roles include Guglielmo, Cosi fan Tutte for Celebrate Voice Festival, education project performances as Escamillo, The Downfall of Don José and Belcore/Dulcamara, The Implausible Potions of Dr Dulcamara, and he has also covered the roles of Swineherd and Satan in a double-bill of Full Moon in March and Les Larmes
de Couteau
for the Royal Opera and Ballet.

Alongside his operatic roles, Matthew is a leading interpreter of the Savoy Operas, and has regularly appeared in award-winning G&S productions with companies including the National Gilbert & Sullivan Society and Charles Court Opera, with roles including both Major-General Stanley and the Pirate King, The Pirates of Penzance, Captain Corcoran H.M.S. Pinafore, Grosvenor, Patience, Mountararat, Iolanthe and both Pooh-Bah and Katisha for  The Mikado.

As well as a popular singer, Matthew is also an accomplished dancer.
